Where Do Mass Shootings Happen?
This map shows mass shootings between 2013-2015 that led to over four deaths. The deadliest shootings within those years led to more than half a dozen deaths. In 2013, 34-year-old Aaron Alexis, a government contractor, killed 12 people inside the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. In 2014, 51-year-old Don Charles Spirit killed his daughter and six grandchildren in Florida before killing himself. In 2015, 21-year-old Dylan Roof killed nine people inside a church in Charleston, South Carolina.

A 2014 FBI report on mass shootings in the U.S. (2000-2013) investigated the location of 160 mass shooting cases that led to the death of four or more people. Within those years, a majority of mass shootings occurred in a place of commerce or educational institution.
